And I was like, “All of my fans smoke weed, why don’t we push this strain to the fans?” It’s starting to grow into something that I didn’t think it would be. They had the killer strains that I liked. My business partners Aaron and Jud came to me. How did you initially decide to get involved with them? You recently released the Freddie Kane OG weed strain you created in collaboration with Chroncierge. They probably not going to talk about the album anymore if it doesn’t do what they want expect it to do or want it to do. They’re not going to talk about what they sold. But they’re not going to say anything about that. A label might come out with a big record and the record they come out with for the next artist might flop. Their job is to make the successes look huge and the failures as miniscule as possible. A lot of people are getting jobs even though they aren’t fit for the position. But a lot of these working for them that they can control like puppets. Like this guy might get the president job, not because he got musical knowledge, but because he was.
What's wrong with the way A&Rs are hired today? That’s my next move after I’m done with actually putting out Freddie Gibbs albums. I’m so hands on and involved in my own music, that I feel like if I put the same effort into another artist then I can definitely cultivate something great. I think I definitely have an ear for the music. Reid and Babyface did with LaFace, other moguls in the game like Diddy. You’ve mentioned that labels have approached you about A&R positions. I think it’s just another step to show that as an independent I can function. I did the same thing the major labels do. People were saying that my uncle or my mom and dad must work for the billboard company. It was a cool little thing to do for the record. Once you do one and put that up on Instagram it’s like having 1,000 of them. I’ve never seen that done before, an indie guy with some billboards. How many billboards did you put up to promote Shadow of a Doubt? Do you feel they were a smart investment, or was it just a way to flex?
